Alfonso Ortega collaborates with Iaffaldano, Shaw & Young LLP as a consultant on business matters in Mexico and Latin America. He helps U.S. investors, developers and hotel operators plan and carry out real estate and hospitality projects in the region. He coordinates local counsel, due diligence and permitting, and helps structure the business terms of acquisitions and joint ventures.

Ortega brings more than 25 years of experience in cross-border transactions. He has guided U.S. investors into and out of Mexico on acquisitions, divestitures, workouts and project financings. Much of this work involved resort and hotel construction, golf course developments, land regularization, and the regulatory compliance of hotel operations. He began his career at Jáuregui y Del Valle, S.C. in Mexico City and worked as a foreign attorney in the International Finance Group of Mayer Brown LLP in Chicago from 2005 to 2006. In 2006 he founded Ortega Abogados, a boutique firm in Mexico focused on real estate, hospitality and corporate matters.

Ortega received his Licenciatura en Derecho from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and an LL.M. in International Business Law from the London School of Economics, where he received a Graduate Merit Award. He is licensed in Mexico. He is a native Spanish speaker and fluent in English.
